Frequently asked questions
Will you put me to sleep?
No, and we want to be honest about that. Our two options, laughing gas and oral sedation, keep you relaxed and comfortable but awake and able to respond. With the calming pill, many patients barely remember the visit, but you are not unconscious. If a case truly needs IV sedation or general anesthesia, we refer you to a trusted oral surgeon and can handle your restoration afterward.
Is sedation safe?
Yes. Both options are proven, everyday tools in dentistry, we match the dose to you, and we monitor your oxygen and vital signs the whole time. Dr. Slobodian trained in oral surgery, so the person sedating you does this daily and is trained to handle anything that comes up.
What if the sedation does not work, like last time?
Comfort is not only the medicine. We explain before we do anything, we test that you are fully numb and add more if needed, and you can stop us at any point. The medication takes the edge off, and the way we work keeps it off.
Can I drive myself home?
After laughing gas, usually yes, because it wears off within minutes. After the oral calming pill, no, you will be drowsy and will need someone to drive you. We tell you which applies before your appointment.
I gag on x-rays and impressions. Can you still treat me?
Yes. Laughing gas settles a strong gag reflex well, and we can take a digital scan instead of using an impression tray. This is one of the things sedation handles best.
I have not been to a dentist in years. Will you judge me?
Never. Many of our patients came back after a long time away. We start where you are, tell you the truth about what we see, and build a plan you can take one step at a time.
Can I be sedated for an implant or an extraction?
Yes. Laughing gas or oral sedation keeps you relaxed through the procedure, and because Dr. Slobodian does the surgery himself, the same person keeping you calm is the one doing the work.
Do you speak Ukrainian or Russian?
Yes. Dr. Slobodian trained in Lviv and speaks English, Ukrainian, and Russian, and he understands the Eastern European dental history many patients bring with them.
