Frequently asked questions
Do I really need a crown, or will a filling do?
It depends on how much healthy tooth is left. If a filling would leave the tooth weak or likely to crack, a crown protects it better. If a smaller repair will hold, we do the smaller repair. Sometimes an inlay or onlay sits right in between, and we will tell you honestly which one your tooth needs.
Zirconia or e.max, which crown is better?
Neither is "better" across the board. Zirconia is stronger, so we use it on molars and for anyone who grinds. E.max looks more like natural enamel, so we use it on front teeth. We choose per tooth, and on implant crowns the same doctor who placed the implant makes the crown.
How much does a crown or a denture cost without insurance?
A crown starts at [PRICE crown] and dentures at [PRICE denture], with the exact number given before we begin. We are out of network, so you pay one clear fee and get a superbill for partial PPO reimbursement, and CareCredit or Cherry can spread it into monthly payments.
My old crown or bridge failed. Why, and do I need a whole new one?
Old crowns often fail because decay slipped under the margin or the bite overloaded them. We find the cause first. Some bridges can be re-cemented or partly repaired, others need replacing, and sometimes an implant is the better long-term fix than another bridge on weak anchor teeth. We will show you the options.
Can you make my denture stop slipping, or do I need implants?
Both are on the table. A better-fitted denture helps, and implant-supported ("snap-on") dentures hold firmly and stop the bone loss that makes dentures loosen in the first place. We will show you the ladder and the real cost of each step.
Can you do a crown in one day?
We craft crowns in a dental lab with a master ceramist rather than milling them chairside, because hand-layered ceramics look better and last, especially on front teeth. That means a temporary crown at the first visit and your final crown shortly after. For a broken tooth that cannot wait, we can protect it the same day.
What is full-mouth reconstruction, and will it fix my jaw pain?
It is a complete plan to rebuild worn, broken, or failing teeth around a healthy bite. When the bite is the cause of clicking, aching, or headaches, rebuilding it correctly often relieves that. We plan these cases around how your bite actually functions, and we phase the work so it stays manageable.
Do you replace old metal crowns, and do you speak Ukrainian?
Yes to both. Dr. Slobodian speaks English, Ukrainian, and Russian, understands the older metal crownwork and Soviet-era bridges many patients bring, and rebuilds them into modern zirconia and e.max restorations.
